Integrated AlumNI on BBC Good Morning Ulster

On 18 February 2022, Trustee Lise McCaffery was invited to a discussion on BBC Good Morning Ulster with an opponent of the Integrated Education Bill, Bishop Donal McKeown.

Engaging positively in the discussion, Lise set out that:

▶ The Bill is about providing the choice to parents to send their child to an Integrated school.

▶ The Bill sets out a strategy to provide a planning authority to the Integrated sector, just like the controlled and maintained sector.

▶ There are no changes to existing schools or their funding.

▶ The sector was started, and has grown, because of committed parents and teachers. Now we want the Department to also step up to meet the needs and desires of parents and our young people.

▶ Approx. 7% of children attending Controlled schools identify as Catholic while 1.3% of those attending Catholic Maintained schools identify as Protestant, according to Department of Education stats.

Listen to the snippet of the recording of the Bill on our Twitter page - unfortunately the full recording is no longer available.
