GCSE Results Day: Our Response

The NI exams board CCEA said there will be some _anomalies in terms of judgements provided and the grade issued_. “They are real children with real lives, they aren’t computers, they are not data, not anomalies, .png

Our young people have been let down. Across the country, teachers have worked diligently and shown the utmost integrity in seeking to protect the future that our young people deserve. Our teachers know our pupils individually. They care about them individually as people, not mere calculations or outputs.

The integrated schooling movement is founded on the fact that students are individuals who are not constrained by labels or categories or statistics.

They should not be judged according to any attribute or factor that is external to them and they should certainly not be judged according to the output of an algorithm. Pupils are people. They are not labels, or statistics, or numbers on a spreadsheet.

We recognise that today has been a difficult day. Many of you who received your results feel angry, let-down and uncertain about what comes next.

If you find yourself in that position, here are resources available to help:

If you want to find out more about the appeals process with CCEA, see: https://bit.ly/31LNhag.

For more information about clearing, UCAS, and university places, see: https://bit.ly/2E3SMJe.

Regardless of your reaction to today, the Integrated AlumNI are here to help, support and champion you. We are here to listen to your experiences and help you chart what comes next. Our network of past pupils and supporters of the movement would love to speak with any school leaver. Whether you have questions about the world of work, university, further education- or equally, if you want to connect with our network and continue your integrated journey- please reach out. We are here for you. #JoinIN!
